Air Cap Tank

Air Cap Tank

The Letina Air Cap Tank is a variable capacity vessel specifically designed for hobbyists, craft amateurs, and boutique producers. Built from durable, premium-grade stainless steel, this tank offers the ultimate flexibility in storage volume.

The standout feature is its floating lid, which uses an inflatable gasket and manual pump to achieve a perfect, airtight seal at any liquid height. This eliminates damaging headspace and prevents oxygenation whether the tank is completely full or down to its last few liters. By utilizing a slightly thinner steel coat than our heavy-duty PZP series, we are able to offer this high-quality vessel at a highly affordable price point.

  • Infinity Volume Adjustability: The floating lid scales to whatever volume you have stored, making it the perfect fit for small, variable-yield harvests.

  • Airtight Seal: Achieved effortlessly with the help of the food-grade inflatable gasket and hand pump included with the tank.

  • Pristine Sanitary Interior: The interior features an ultra-smooth BA (IIId) polish to make cleaning easy and prevent product buildup.

  • Material Customization: Comes standard in high-quality AISI 304 stainless steel, with an upgrade to AISI 316L available for highly acidic or corrosive environments.

Frequently Asked Questions

How exactly does the "Floating Lid" and air cap system work?

It is a brilliant solution to the problem of oxidation. The lid has a heavy-duty inflatable bladder (gasket) around its edge. You place the lid directly on top of the liquid level inside the tank. Using the included hand pump, you inflate the gasket until it presses tightly against the interior tank walls. This creates a complete, airtight seal that locks oxygen out and keeps your wine or cider perfectly preserved.

To keep this tank accessible for home winemakers and small startups, we use a thinner stainless steel sheet for the tank’s coat (about half the thickness of our commercial PZP/PZPK models). While this makes the tank lighter and much more affordable, it means it cannot handle the heavy physical abuse or high internal pressures of a 24/7 commercial production line.

Yes, many winemakers use variable capacity tanks for primary fermentation! You simply leave the lid off or resting loosely on top during the active, vigorous ferment so the CO2 gas can escape. Once fermentation is complete and you want to protect the wine during aging, you drop the lid to the liquid level and pump up the seal.
